HCA, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, today announced that for a sixth consecutive year the company has earned national recognition as one of the best workplaces for information technology professionals. HCA, which has 165 hospitals and 115 surgery centers in 20 states, ranked No. 42 on Computerworld’s 2014 “Best Places to Work in Information Technology” list of 100 companies.
“It is an honor to once again find HCA listed among the top 100 ‘Best Places to Work in IT,’” said Marty Paslick, HCA’s Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “This award reflects our ability to provide an attractive workplace for HCA’s 215,000 employees and particularly for our more than 4,000 IT professionals, upon whose unique technology expertise we rely to help transform healthcare in the communities we serve.”
Recognized several times as a top employer, HCA offers a number of opportunities for employees to get involved and make a difference. Employees can participate in HCA’s employee giving campaign. Corporate employees can volunteer during company time at non-profit agencies throughout the year and during two designated HCA Community Days. New this year, HCA’s Information Technology & Services (IT&S) department sponsored Hack for the Community, where IT&S and other HCA employees collaborated with local non-profit agencies to develop technology solutions that are helping to improve and extend the reach of their charitable efforts. To help provide assistance closer to home, in 2005 the company established the HCA Hope Fund, an employee-run, employee-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial relief to thousands of HCA employees every year.
In addition, as a company with a mission to care for people, HCA promotes employee health by providing various educational programs and incentives for participating in several wellness programs.
Also, HCA provides a number of professional growth programs. For example, through IT Healthcare Connection (ITHC), HCA IT&S employees are immersed into the hospital environment to help them further appreciate the effects of their work. In addition, HCA IT&S offers a diversified development program with more than 2,000 courses delivered across a variety of learning platforms to support professional development.
HCA’s Information Technology & Services department (IT&S) employs over 4,000 employees across the U.S., operates five data centers and fourteen division support centers responsible for delivering IT services to HCA and its subsidiaries such as Parallon and Sarah Cannon, as well as other customers around the country. HCA IT&S’s array of services includes business analysis, systems development, systems integration, information security, customer support, training and education, and infrastructure support.
Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals by IDG’s Computerworld. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
