A.J. Foster, RN

Director of Progressive Care and Telemetry

A.J. started at CRMC in 2006 and has 11 years of nursing experience with the majority of his career spent in critical care at the hospital. A.J. is dedicated to improving patient safety and experience while also increasing employee engagement.


Alice D. Woods, MBA, PT

Director of Rehabilitation Services

Alice received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch, then proceeded to earn her MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management from Our Lady of the Lake University. She has more than 28 years of experience as a physical therapist in a variety of settings. Alice has been a Joint Commission Disease Specific Care Reviewer since 2010. She joined the Conroe Regional Medical Center team in 2013.


Angelo Carambas MBA, RN, NEA-BC

Associate Chief Nursing Officer

Angelo received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and his MBA in Healthcare Administration from Walden University. He has earned the following licenses, certifications and credentials: Texas Board of Nursing, Certification in Nursing Executive- Advanced, Certification in Critical Care Nursing-Alumni, Certification in Cardiac Surgery Nursing -Alumni, Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Angelo has been with Conroe Regional Medical Center for two years. His ultimate goal is to enhance and help the care delivery system transcends to a higher level of function through streamlining process, empowering and engaging staff.


Barbara Laing

Director of Diagnostic Imaging, Radiology Services

Barbara earned her degree in radiology technology from St. Petersburg College and since has led medical imaging departments in for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare systems across the Southeast for 25 years. She is a member of the Lone Star College Radiologic Technology Program Advisory Board and a HCA Hope Fund Facility Campaign Coordinator. Barbara has been with Conroe Regional Medical Center since 2002.


Christy Anderson, BSN, RN

Director of Education

Christy received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Alcorn State University. She continued her nursing education and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University. She will complete her Master of Science in Nursing with an Emphasis in Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University in 2017. Christy has an extensive background in nursing that began in 2003. Christy’s experience has primarily included critical care areas, ICU, Emergency Room, and Cardiac Catheterization Lab. In 2012, Christy began to fulfil her passion for nursing education and spent four years working full time for Hurst Review Services where she focused on preparing nursing students to pass the NCLEX and remediating students who were unsuccessful on the NCLEX. Christy began working at CRMC two years ago as the Clinical Educator. Christy is committed to teaching and assisting student nurses, new nurses and staff members with their transition into the hospital setting by supporting and encouraging them in where they are today, but also focusing on where they want to be years from now.


Darren DeSimone BSN, RN

Director of Emergency Services

Darren began his career at Conroe Regional Medical Center in 2005 as a nurse tech. He received his Associates Degree in Nursing from Montgomery College, and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington. Born and raised in the Conroe area, Darren is committed to serving his community with kindness and compassion.


David Davidson

Director of Advanced Clinical Applications

David graduated from the College of Nursing at Northwestern State University. He is an RN with 26 years of experience, 20 of which have been at CRMC. He is the Director of Advanced Clinical Applications and is in charge of the facility's Electronic Healthcare Records. His background is in Critical Care, Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology.


Elizabeth "Ann" Byerman, MSN, RN

Director of Critical Care

Ann earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University and her MSN from Texas Tech University. She's been in nursing for more than 25 years. Ann has been a nurse at Conroe Regional Medical Center for more than 20 years and is committed to quality care and safety.


Janet Gammon

Medical Staff Services Director

Janet earned Associate Degrees in Professional Office Administration and Medical Office Administration from the North Harris Montgomery Community College District. She began her career with Conroe Regional Medical Center in 1996. Prior to her promotion to the Director for Medical Staff Services, she served as the Executive Office Manager for hospital administration.


Joan Kelly

Director of Quality Management

Joan earned her nursing license through Methodist School of Nursing and is currently working toward her RN-MSN at UT Arlington. She's a Certified Rehabilitation RN, is Certified in Infection Control and is a member of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Joan's been a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years and has worked at Conroe Regional Medical Center for the last 15 years. She's responsible for developing and implementing hospital wide programs for quality improvement, inpatient wound care management, infection prevention and employee health and safety. Prior to working at Conroe Regional Medical Center, she has worked in many leadership roles, as well as clinical roles in a variety of hospital settings such as physical rehabilitation for stroke/post traumatic brain injury/orthopedics, neurology, medical surgical as well as Pediatric/Pediatric ICU.


Kelly Mohan

Laboratory Director

Kelly has a BS in Medical Technology from West Virginia University and is an ASCP certified Medical Technologist. She has more than 20 years experience in the field of laboratory science with an emphasis in microbiology. Kelly moved to Texas from Maryland in 2002 and began working for CRMC in 2004.


Laura Littlejohn

Director of Community and Public Relations

Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communications from Oklahoma State University. She has worked in both agency and healthcare settings. Laura joined the Conroe Regional Medical team as the Director of Community and Public Relations in March 2016.


Laurie Philips

Director of Surgical Services

Laurie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Allen College of Nursing in Waterloo, Iowa. She has held many leadership roles within her 17 years as an operating room nurse, including roles of Operating Room Manager, Clinical Nurse IV and charge nurse, as well as a Captain in the US Air Force. Laurie joined Conroe Regional Medical Center June 2015 and believes in advancing surgical nursing as well as staff, patient and physician satisfaction.


Le’Qunna Johnson

Director of Health Information Management

Le’Qunna joined the healthcare field in 2008. She is a graduate of Houston Baptist University and a current member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She is responsible for the overall operations in Health Information Management at Conroe Regional Medical Center and serves as the Facility Privacy Officer. Le’Qunna is committed to maintaining the integrity and protection of patient health information.


Mary Berczy

Director of Orthopedics, Post-Surgical and Trauma

Mary earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of South Florida and a MSN at the University of Texas at Arlington. She has 40 years of hospital nursing experience and joined Conroe Regional Medical Center in 2009. Mary strives to create an environment that is conducive to learning, promotes patient safety and provides excellent patient care.


Michelle Jackson

Director of Patient Safety

Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University and is slated to receive her Master’s in Executive Practice and Healthcare Leadership in 2017. Michelle has more than a decade of clinical leadership and nursing experience. She has obtained specialty certifications in Neuroscience and Stroke Care as well as achieved Board Certification as a Nurse Executive. She is an active member of the National Patients Safety Foundation and actively volunteers to serve the community through the Texas Gulf Coast Association of Quality. She has been with HCA for seven years and is dedicated to delivering passionate care, improving patient care processes, just culture and patient outcomes. She is committed to serving in excellence as the Director of Patient Safety and strives to advocate for patients, families and employees as the Patient Safety Officer.


Mike Horger

Director of Facilities Management / Safety Officer

Mike served eight years in the US Army as a nuclear, biological, chemical defense specialist. Upon discharge he started a maintenance contracting company in Lufkin, Texas. After relocating to Conroe in 2002, Mike began his career at Conroe Regional Medical Center as the Director of Facilities Management and Safety Officer. Mike is a member of ASHE, NFPA and holds a CHFM certification.


Minnie Washington

Director of Nursing

Minnie has been an employee of CRMC for 25 years and specializes in Med/Surg and Pediatrics. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and she is currently in pursuit of a Masters of Nursing at Chamberlain University. She is dedicated to “Service Excellence.”


Monica Sanders, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN

Trauma Director

After earning her Associates Degree in Nursing from Lone Star College-Montgomery, Monica started her career as an Emergency Department Nurse and was quickly promoted to Charge Nurse. Monica went on to earn her BSN from Chamberlain College of Nursing and her MSN in Healthcare Systems Management from Loyola University-New Orleans. Monica has both her CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) and TCRN (Trauma Certified Registered Nurse), and is a member of the Emergency Nurse’s Association, the Society of Trauma Nurses, the American Trauma Society, Texas Trauma Coordinator’s Forum, and the SETRAC Trauma Committee. Monica joined the team at Conroe Regional in 2014 and was instrumental in Conroe Regional obtaining status as the Region’s first Level II Trauma Center.


O'Keefe Allen

Supply Chain Director

O'Keefe is a graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont. He's been a Supply Chain Director in Healthcare for 28 years. O'Keefe has been working as the Supply Chain Director at Conroe Regional Medical Center since 2010 and for HCA since 2001.


Sharla Shumaker

Administrative Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute and Perioperative Services

Sharla received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master's in Nursing Health Systems/Healthcare Administration at Texas Women's University in Houston, Texas. She is a member of various healthcare organizations including the American Association for Critical Care Nurses, American Society of Cardiovascular Professionals and the American Heart Association. Sharla serves on numerous cardiovascular committees and has been instrumental with the implementation of cardiovascular disease management programs at Conroe Regional Medical Center such as Accredited Chest Pain Center, Certified Stroke Center, Five Star Rated Heart Failure Program and Women’s Heart Initiative.


Steve Herring

IT Director

Steve began his career with HCA as the network administrator at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in January of 2005. Later on, he went through the transition to the IT&S Field Operations support model where he moved to the position of Senior Technical Analyst. In 2008, he was promoted to the IT&S Zone Operations Manager for both Conroe Regional Medical Center and Kingwood Medical Center, and eventually, he transitioned to the Operations Manager at CRMC. Through these positions, he has successfully led IT Operations of these facilities through multiple construction projects, workflow improvements to increase productivity, as well as successfully elevate customer service scores and SLAs to one of the top in HCA’s Gulf Coast Division.
